APTE is a hotspot for kids, they are likely to make a new friend while enjoying a tasty little cake in one of the many high chairs.
I have been to APTE (A Place to Eat) a few times and everytime there is at least a handful of toddlers enjoying APTE’s cuisine. At times it feels like there are almost as many under fives as there are adults and APTE has the facilities to make this work. The large outdoor courtyard, equipped with heaters for cooler weather is a cozy place to get some fresh air with the kids. Inside there are also large tables and room for the pram (with a little rearranging). There is a toy box for kids outside and children can help themselves.
It was a Saturday and the place was buzzing, we chose a seat outside and they lit the heater for us. Finn was wide-eyed and happy, eyeing a nearby bub. Next to us was a large group celebrating someone’s birthday. As often happens in large groups, one woman took control of the conversation and rattled on for most of the meal while others “mhm”-ed in agreement (or more accurately, indifference). I heard her loudly lamenting about some place or other that didn’t have hashbrowns on the menu and proudly exclaiming that she makes a point of walking out if there are no hashbrowns on the menu. I guess she would be fine at most fast food establishments then. As well as hashbrowns there were many other tasty treats on the all day breakfast menu, the usual egg combinations, plus some others such as banana coconut toast or ricotta hotcakes with rhubarb.
I went for the Spanish baked eggs. They were tasty to begin with and I loved the addition of olives but very rich towards the end and some of the egg whites were under-cooked. Mr J ordered the big breakie which he was a little disappointed with, the bacon and sausage could have been cooked a little more. However, on other occasions we have been very happy with our meals and on this particular day they were particularly under the pump. My milkshake was also forgotten but when it came it was tasty (a little on the sweet side for my taste though).
APTE is the perfect destination to bring the kids, relax outside, read the paper and enjoy some all day breakfast. The salads and pides are also a good choice for lunch and the cakes are particularly inviting and delicious. I would recommend the muffin sized carrot cakes with lovely thick and creamy cream-cheese frosting. Be warned kitchen closes at 3pm.
